Workshop: Paint a portrait

Workshop: Paint a portrait
Wednesday 28 August at 16:30 at the museum's main building at Nidaros Cathedral

How has Else Hagen used the colours, the surface and the brush in her paintings?

This evening we study Hagen's portraits and take a closer look at how the pictures are constructed. Based on Hagen's expression and method, you get to paint a self-portrait. All materials are included in the course fee.

The workshop is held by artist and educator Ingunn S. Ystad (b. 1984). Ystad has a master's degree in visual arts from Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts and currently works at the Trondheim Art Museum alongside his own practice as a painter.

The Else Hagen exhibition. Between people deals with Hagen's entire artistry, with the greatest emphasis on paintings from the 1940s and 50s, as well as her large graphic output.

The garden was central in the post-war period with its colour- and form-concentrated 'figurative modernism'. She placed great emphasis on the painting's formal structure and abstract elements, but combined this with motifs that dealt with close relationships, rifts in the nuclear family and female experiences.

The workshop is open to everyone, and is also suitable for those who have never painted before.
