"And Still I Sing" is a powerful and moving documentary offering insight into the lives of young women in Afghanistan who are fighting for freedom and the right to express themselves through song. The film demonstrates how courage, hope, and solidarity can challenge oppression, even under extremely difficult circumstances.

This is the story of three Afghan women who take up the fight for their rights using music as a weapon. Pop star and activist Aryana Sayeed mentors two aspiring young singers: Zahra Elham and Sadiqa Madadgar. While both are competing in the popular TV show *Afghan Star*, their lives become increasingly difficult as the Taliban strengthens its hold on power.

The documentary provides a glimpse into the dreams and the immense risks these women face by stepping into the public eye; it also illustrates how music becomes a symbol of freedom, identity, and resistance against rigid social norms.

All the women were forced into exile after the Taliban seized power. Elaha Soroor—who is performing a concert at Dokkhuset with Kefaya on Thursday evening—is a former contestant in the competition herself and was forced to flee to London. This screening honors her and all Afghan women who fight for their rights and freedom every single day—nothing should be taken for granted!
