Árdna Sessions Special / Oda Trøen / Jeff Porter (The Rainmakers)

Oda Trøen is an artist from Ålen who creates honest country music inspired by everyday events, heartbreak and friendship. With sarcasm and humor, she builds a narrative that is both entertaining, captivating and recognizable to the listener. She brings with her to the Àrdna sessions a bunch of brand new songs, as well as selected favorites from previous releases.

This was Adresseavisen's reviewer, Ole Jacob Hoel,'s verdict after Trondheim Calling in 2023 when he gave Trøen and the band a five: "Her expression and music simply smell a bit of liberating silo. She has a lovely Dolly Parton edge to her voice, while the whole package has a slightly more rock-ish Emmylou Harris / Gram Parsons aura. And she writes really good songs. The trio from this fall's EP is a string of gems: "Too Late to Die Young", "Vodka Soda" and "Rocky And Adrian" are as good as anything from abroad." (Adressa, 2023).

The best singer-songwriter you've never heard of Jeff Porter is perhaps best known as the lead guitarist for The Rainmakers, but as a solo artist he shows his own unique strength as a songwriter. With his 2021 release "Daylight", he delivers a warm and genre-playing collection of songs, full of clever wordplay, strong melodies and lyrics that hit right to the heart. Porter moves seamlessly between folk, rock and Americana - always with the stories at the center.

The opening track Top of the World was voted one of the listeners' favorites on an alternative radio station in Kansas City, and is a good example of his ability to combine catchy melodies with heartfelt lyrics.
