MEMOIRS FROM A DREAM
Carl Christian Lein Størmer, 2026, 91 min.
Countless musicians dream of becoming rock stars. A few have made it, but for the vast majority it remains just a dream. And some work much harder than others to make it happen. Memoirs From a Dream is about the band Hangface from small Tromsø – with broad ambitions and sky-high dreams – aiming for the moon to achieve The Big Breakthrough. Never heard of Hangface? Let's put it this way: if there were justice in this world, and if success were proportional to hard work, Hangface would be on everyone's lips.
With an invitation from producer legend Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones), Hangface travels to Los Angeles in the mid-2000s to record an album. The film follows the band through recording and touring, largely through footage shot by the band themselves. With clever narrative devices, we also hear about life afterwards, when things didn't go as planned, the audience has gone home, the amplifiers are switched off and everything has receded into the distance.
Filmmaker Carl Christian Lein Størmer has distilled 500 hours of footage shot by the band themselves, as well as interviewed band members, friends and others who were part of the journey towards the unfortunately unattainable fame. The result is a funny, raw and melancholic film about life and dreams that don't quite go as planned, with universal reflections that touch our hearts and that many can relate to.
Filmmaker and Sonisk friend Størmer comes to tell about the project, share stories and show a couple of juicy clips that didn't make it into the film.
