Programme:
Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet, Op. 18 No. 1 in F major

The Luna Quartet (Young Quartet Series) opens with Zemlinsky’s String Quartet No. 1, Op. 4, 4th movement.
----
Beethoven’s Op. 18 No. 1 is a natural place for the Engegård Quartet to begin their concert for the Oslo Quartet Series in April – not only is it a brilliant work, it is also inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a theme that resonates with the quartet. The ensemble is currently on the remarkable journey of learning all of Beethoven’s quartets.
For the next work, the Engegård Quartet has the pleasure of inviting Frøy Hovland Holtbakk to perform Clara Schumann’s Drei Lieder. Frøy is a rising soprano, and in spring 2025 she can be heard in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. The programme then continues with Schoenberg’s wonderfully beautiful String Quartet No. 2. Do not be put off by the name Schoenberg – this piece tells a powerful story from a period in his life when his wife was in love with their neighbour, and Schoenberg found solace in poetry and music.
