Welcome to the concert series "Our Lady on Saturday", April 18th we will hear Øyvind Mathisen Trio + Rob Waring!
Øyvind Frøberg Mathisen is a trumpeter and composer from Oslo, educated at the jazz department in Trondheim and the Norwegian Academy of Music. With a deep love for the jazz tradition and a solid dose of musical playfulness, he has presented original jazz music at more than 70 concerts with his own bands. In Øyvind Mathisen Trio, the sound of the trumpet is more in focus than ever before.
Øyvind Mathisen Trio Norwegian-Polish collaboration that started in 2023 and has about 15 concerts behind it, with performances at some of the largest jazz clubs and festivals in Norway and Poland.
The trio plays acoustic jazz and presents swinging and melodic music by Mathisen and bassist Erlend Olderskog Albertsen. The transparent soundscape requires a great presence from each individual and that they fill the interaction with crystal clear harmonic and rhythmic ideas. The band wants to challenge the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be and especially explores the combination between trumpet and string bass. Albertsen's use of the bow opens up for exciting harmonic exploration, which among other things draws inspiration from Mark Turner's musical expression and his ability to explore new harmonic paths.
Polish Patrycja Wybrańczyk is one of the most exciting young drummers on the European jazz scene today, who with a fantastic groove and sound palette serves as a pillar of the trio.
In 2024, Øyvind Mathisen Trio played for the first time with the fantastic vibraphonist Rob Waring. Rob Waring has been active on the Norwegian scene for a number of years and is known from Torgrim Sollids Søyr, Espen Rud's Small Fish Sextett, Eyolf Dale's Wolf Valley, Elin Rosseland Trio, Jon Eberson Trio, John Surman Quartet, Mats Eilertsen's Rubicon and in his own trio with Carl Morten Iversen and Frank Jakobsen.
