Stavanger Symphony Orchestra: Mahler's Third Symphony

Andris Poga concludes his tenure as chief conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra with Gustav Mahler's monumental Third Symphony – a work that encompasses the entire spectrum of nature and human life in one grand musical journey.

Into the music: welcome to a free introduction to the work with Sunniva Fossum in the VIP room on the 5th floor at 6:30 p.m.

Mahler believed that a symphony should be like the world – it should encompass everything. And that is precisely what this work does: it is a magnificent and moving work about the forces of nature, humanity's place in existence and the divine.

Symphony No. 3 is Mahler's longest, with six movements and a playing time of around 100 minutes. To perform this powerful work, Poga is joined by the renowned mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly, a large women's choir and a children's choir. A solemn, emotional and beautiful finale – and a warm celebration of Poga's time with the orchestra.
