The band was started in the early 1990s, when Toini Knudtsen moved from Kristiansund to Oslo with a guitar and rockabilly in his luggage. Toini's solid Tomcats have never made artistic compromises and believe in what they are doing. Real and self-produced rock'n'roll, rockabilly and blues played by skilled, playful, inventive musicians who are not afraid to cross genre boundaries or challenge themselves and the audience. This band has class, and has rightly been called the Cadillac of Norwegian rockabilly.
Toini & the Tomcats' energetic live performance has a broad appeal, and the audience comes in all shapes and ages. The band has markets in many countries, both where they have never set foot (including Japan), and where they have toured extensively (USA, Finland, Holland), where they have distinguished themselves with songs that demand a little more from the audience and reflect the band's unceremonious attitude towards themselves and the genres. They have their feet firmly planted in classic 50s rock, but they are happy to flirt with ska, jazz and classic country - and are strong supporters of the fact that good music is good music.
Tomcats has released seven albums, mostly with self-produced songs.
