Course fee: NOK 3800 (adult) / NOK 3300 (senior/student)
The beginner’s wheel-throwing weekend offers time and space to learn basic throwing techniques over the course of a weekend.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in trying out the pottery wheel—whether or not you have prior experience with clay.
It’s designed for adults*, and can be adapted to meet individual needs.
We work in small groups of around 9 participants. The course is primarily held in Norwegian, but English or German are also no problem.
The course is led by Franziska and runs from 10 AM to 5 PM (7 PM)** on Saturday, and from 10 AM to 3 PM (5 PM)** on Sunday.
The main focus is on mastering the individual steps of the wheel-throwing process.
We learn by observing—understanding with the head, but mastering with the hands.
This process requires concentration and patience, while offering a unique sense of presence as your body learns to handle the clay on the wheel.
We progress in small steps and grow fond of each little bowl we create.
The course provides a solid foundation to continue working on your own at the wheel—either in our open studio or at home.
On Saturday, we work on preparing the clay, centering it on the wheel, and pulling up walls to create cups and bowls.
Sunday is mostly dedicated to trimming, where we remove excess clay from the pieces made the day before and shape them to a nice form and finish.
It's also possible to learn how to make and attach handles to cups on this day.
After drying, the pieces will be fired in the kiln.
At the end of the course, we’ll agree on how the items should be glazed.
If you wish to do the glazing yourself, you can sign up for a glazing course***.
Finished pieces can be picked up about 3 weeks later.
* It's possible to register a youth (age 16+) at the student price if they are accompanied by a participating adult.
** After the official course hours, participants have the option to continue working independently for up to two extra hours.
*** Please note that there must be at least three weeks between the two courses to allow the pottery to dry and be fired before glazing.
You can still sign up for a glazing course after completing the wheel-throwing course—you don’t need to book it right away and can choose a date that suits you later.
The course fee includes:
16-hour wheel-throwing course, incl. materials
3-hour glazing course, incl. materials
1 free trial month in our Open Studio, incl. 5 kg of clay
