Art and landscape at Bru - Horizons and fragments

A walk where nature meets art

Across the island of Bru, a cultural trail winds its way through the landscape, offering a truly unique experience in terms of both content and location. The trail was established in 2008 when Stavanger was European Capital of Culture.

Along the three-kilometre route, 15 works of art are placed in the terrain. These art installations continue to surprise and inspire visitors to this day. The trail has become a popular destination, frequently used by both locals and visitors over the years.

Starting point with overview and insight

The starting point for the walk is the courtyard at Kulturbruk 44/4, where there is ample parking and a notice board with a map of the trail. Here you can get an overview of the route and the location of the various artworks. The project is called Horizons and Fragments and is the result of a collaboration between writers and artists. The artworks have been designed especially for the area and are carefully adapted to the surrounding landscape.

Traces of the past and the diversity of nature

Along the trail, you will pass several cultural monuments, including an old settlement and burial mounds. You will move through a varied cultural landscape with forests, gardens, pastures and coastal nature – a small cross-section of the region's diverse natural and cultural heritage.

A worthy viewpoint

The trail ends at Bruhåve, where a granite throne awaits you. From here, around 40 metres above sea level, you can enjoy panoramic views of the area – a perfect place to sit down and take in the impressions before following the cart track back to the start.
