Hemsedal
Summer in Hemsedal is an angler's paradise, with long, fast-flowing rivers and numerous mountain lakes. The rivers and lakes are crystal clear and hold wild brown trout in their prime. Fishing is closed in Hemsedal for season 2025. Opens again in 2026.
Fishing in Hemsedal – everything you need to know
Hemsedal offers unique fishing experiences in stunning surroundings and is home to two of Norway’s best trout rivers. With an active fly-fishing community, the valley attracts some of the country’s top anglers.
Key Dates – Fishing Season 2025
- Season start: 1 June 2025
- Season end: 15 September 2025
Note: The official start and end dates may be adjusted to the nearest weekend. Always check the exact dates before you go fishing.
New in 2025 – Split River Season in Hemsil
To support sustainable fishing, the river Hemsil will follow a three-part season:
- From 1 June: The stretch from Svøo to Tuv is closed
- From 1 July: Most of the upper Hemsil opens for fishing
- From 15 August: The stretch Svøo to Tuv closes again
Detailed fishing maps show which areas are open or closed during specific periods. Be sure to familiarise yourself with them before fishing.
Eikredammen – Updated Rules
At Eikredammen, fishing is only allowed from the dam throughout the entire season.
New Fishing Maps and Protected Zones
New maps have been created for the 2025 season, showing:
- Open and closed zones during different periods
- Newly defined protected areas
Both new and previous versions of the maps are available on the Hemsedal River Owners’ Association website.
Joint Fishing Licence – One Card, Many Waters
With the joint fishing licence, you can fish in:
- The rivers Hemsila, Grøndøla, Bulinåne, Mørkedøla, and Mørekvam
- 20 mountain lakes in Hemsedal

2025 season licence:
- Available only to permanent residents of Hemsedal
- Sold in-store only – not available online

Additional Fishing Waters
There are also several smaller lakes outside the joint licence area. For these, fishing permits are bought directly at the lake – usually from a box located nearby.
