The History of Garveriet

Garveriet is located in the historic village of Viosen in Snåsa, beautifully situated beside Lake Snåsavatnet. Viosen was once the centre of local commerce, with shops, a bakery and a quay, when the lake served as the main transport route to and from the area.

Built in 1881 as a tannery, lime kiln and residence, the building is the oldest house in Viosen and one of the oldest surviving industrial buildings in Snåsa. Over the years it has housed a wide variety of businesses, including an ice store, fish reception, general store, café, watchmaker, photographer and several craft workshops.

After extensive restoration, Garveriet reopened in 2015 and continues its long tradition as a community gathering place. Today, it offers a café and pub focused on local flavours, as well as facilities for events, cultural activities and memorable experiences in historic surroundings.

Parking:

Green parking by the exit from RV 763 and by the village museum Vonheim. It is also possible to park by the sports facilities not far from Garveriet. It is a short trek to Garveriet. You can also park on the opposite side of teh bridge next to Garveriet.
