Trollkirka is one of the region’s most popular natural attractions, offering visitors a unique subterranean adventure.
Trollkirka (meaning “Troll Church”) consists of three marble and limestone caves with underground streams and waterfalls, located in the Trolldalen valley.
The entire excursion lasts approximately 6 hours and covers around 6 km. It includes a 30-minute bus journey from Molde (each way), followed by a mountain hike of roughly 3 hours (round trip) to reach the caves.
Situated 484 metres above sea level, Trollkirka is accessed by a steep trail that occasionally leads through rough, uneven terrain. Hikers should be prepared for some challenging sections along the path.
The lowest cave extends approximately 40 metres with an S-shaped passage. A beautiful underground waterfall cascades 14 metres into a white marble basin, creating a spectacular sight. This breathtaking waterfall is one of the highlights awaiting visitors inside Trollkirka.
It is recommended to:
wear sturdy, waterproof footwear and a helmet
bring a strong torch (flashlight) or headlamp for exploring the caves
prepare for possible changes in temperature, wind and weather by packing extra clothing
