Guided Fjord & Glacier Tour from Bergen

(You can also choose departure from Voss for this trip: Guided Fjord & Glacier Tour from Voss)

On this tour, one great experience follows another, all in the course of a single day.

Departure from the Tourist Information Office:

The tour starts by bus from the Tourist Information Office at the Fish Market in Bergen, before heading east toward Vik. After about 1.5 hours, we make a short stop in Voss if there are passengers joining there.

From Voss, we continue toward Vik via Vikafjellet, high up in the mountains and through spectacular scenery. At these elevations, there may be snow near the road even in summer.

Tvindefossen:

After about 15 minutes’ drive from Voss, we stop at Tvindefossen, which is 110 meters high and very popular with tourists. There are many myths connected to Tvindefossen, and your guide will tell you more about them.

The “Storesvingen” viewpoint:

On the way down from Vikafjellet to Vik, the bus stops at the “Storesvingen” viewpoint. This viewpoint offers magnificent views over Vik and the Sognefjord, as well as excellent photo opportunities.

Boat trip across the Sognefjord from Vik to Fjærland:

From Vik, the tour continues by boat to Fjærland via Balestrand. The fjord journey takes about 2 hours, and the ticket is included in the price.

The boat has indoor seating as well as the option to stand outside on deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is a café on board serving light meals and a variety of drinks (food and drinks are at your own expense).

The Sognefjord is the deepest and longest fjord in Norway. We cross the Sognefjord and enter Fjærlandsfjord, one of the many arms branching out from the Sognefjord. The beautiful Fjærlandsfjord is approximately 25 kilometres long, with steep mountains on both sides, and Fjærland lies at the innermost end of the fjord.

Fjærland:

Fjærland has around 300 inhabitants, and glacier tourism has existed here since the mid-1800s. Fjærland is perfect to explore on foot, and until 1986 it was only possible to reach the village by boat.

You can choose to explore the village on your own or join the guided excursion to the glacier and the Norwegian Glacier Museum. We have about 2 hours and 15 minutes at our disposal in Fjærland.

The Norwegian Glacier Museum and Bøyabreen:

If you choose to join the excursion to the museum and the glacier, you take the bus from the quay. Both the bus transfer and the entrance ticket to the Norwegian Glacier Museum are included.

The Norwegian Glacier Museum is an interactive museum offering something for the whole family through innovative ways of sharing knowledge about glaciers and climate.

After visiting the Norwegian Glacier Museum, the bus continues up to Bøyabreen, an arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. Here we allow a little extra time to take photos and, above all, to experience up close how the glacier presses into the landscape.

The bus then returns to the Fjærland quay. Here you take the same boat back to Vik. From Vik, we board the bus again and continue the tour to Hopperstad Stave Church.

Hopperstad Stave Church:

We take a short photo stop at the richly decorated Hopperstad Stave Church. Hopperstad was built in 1130 and, together with Urnes, is one of the oldest surviving stave churches. We do not enter the church on this tour.

Return to Bergen:

From Hopperstad Stave Church, we continue the journey toward Voss, where we drop off passengers before returning to Bergen. We arrive at the Tourist Information Office at approximately 20:35.
