For a great view, Lifjell is one of the best viewing points of northern Jæren. From the top, you can enjoy magnificent views of Stavanger, the Gandsfjord, the North Sea and Ryfylke.
This is a walk where you can alternate between wading through the shallows in idyllic Bjorhamn and following cairns on jagged bedrock 287 metres above sea level. The first and last sections of the walk pass through tall coniferous woodland, and on the slopes along Gandsfjorden you can enjoy a wide variety of birdsong in the fascinating, and in places dense, mixed woodland. For those looking for a shorter alternative, there is a marked short trail running from Øksendalen down to Revsdalen. Signposts indicate where to turn off the trail.
Walk north past all the buildings in Dale to the football pitch and follow the forest track towards Dalsvågen. A path continues northwards along Gandsfjorden, partly up the slope and partly along the shore. At Bymarken, turn up towards Lifjellet. The trail maintains its elevation as it heads south before turning down into Øksendalen. Continue through the pass north of Flatafjell and down to Dalevatnet. Then turn right onto the path through the forest and continue to the football pitch at Dale.
The walk to Lifjell from Dale includes sections that can be steep and slippery, particularly after rain. The terrain varies between soft forest tracks, wet sections and hard bedrock. Wear shoes with good grip, dress for the weather and follow the marked route. Keep your distance from steep edges and choose a safer alternative route if conditions warrant it.
