Imagine living right on the edge of the sea, with the raw forces of nature close at hand and panoramic views of the fjord and majestic mountains. In the romantic The Sea House (Sjøhuset) by Hornelen, magic takes shape.

Set apart in a traditional coastal setting on the farm at Lofnes lies Sjøhuset. The smaller of two old boathouses once used for generations of fishing, it is now an exclusive and comfortable place to stay for up to four people. Last renovated in 2025, the rorbu offers unique qualities made for peace, nature experiences, and romance. From the sauna with fjord views, you can step straight into the clear sea, and in the bathtub you’ll find calm in the sound of the ocean and a view few people ever get to experience.

On the second floor, Sjøhuset features a living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area with a view, and two inviting bedrooms. Everything is finished with stylish details and light colours, creating both a beautiful summer atmosphere and cosy winter evenings.

On the first floor you’ll find a sleek bathroom and spa with both sauna and bathtub. Large doors open toward the old boathouse slipway, and from comfortable chairs you can enjoy the sunset over Hornelen. After a long day of adventure — or on a cold, stormy and rain-soaked winter day — nothing compares to the warmth of a relaxing sauna, a foam bath right on the fjord followed by a refreshing Viking bath in the ice-cold sea. As our guests at The Sea House, the private sauna and bathtub can be reserved at any time for an additional fee, creating the perfect setting for deep rest and renewal.

At Hornelen Panaorama you live in the midst of nature and the elements. This makes Sjøhuset the perfect place to experience warm summer days as well as the magical winter, offering both storm watching and clear starry skies by the fire. The waves crash against the stone wall, sea eagles glide across the sky, and outside the big windows otters play. In the fjord whales roam, and with a fishing rod you can pull your dinner straight from the sea.

Hornelen rises on the opposite side of the fjord, visible almost wherever you go. Hiking trails start close by, and the trailhead to Hornelen is only a few minutes away by car. It’s also a short distance to places like Grotlesanden beach, Vetvika, Ålfotbreen Landscape Protection Area, and Kalvåg. The area is rich in cultural history, including the Vingen rock carving site, where guided tours take you back in time.

Lofnes is easy to reach. A high-speed boat from Bergen stops in the village, and we can drive you from the pier. For those arriving by car, there is free parking and access to an EV charger.
