This is how they describe it on their website:
The good life. What is it? We think we know… On Sandøya, we live the good life every day. All year round. The silence, the forest, the sea. We have everything – except cars. Well, actually, we do have one. The local shop uses it to deliver groceries every Thursday. That is quite nice. We also have a school, a kindergarten, a choir, a sports club, a local history group, and much more. Around 200 island residents make up a vibrant year-round community. And when winter feels long, we look ahead to summer, when the population grows tenfold. Summer on Sandøya is something special. The scent of freshly cut grass, lilacs, the sea, and grills being lit. Towels drying in the sun, stories shared along the docks, and people gathering at cafés or out on the rocks. But the best part is the people. Living on an island brings us together. We depend on each other. We are proud.
The good life. What is it? We think we know…
There are several daily ferry departures to Sandøya from Hagefjord Pier, where parking is available. If you arrive by boat, there is also a guest harbour.
