Explore nature's amazing diversity – right in the city centre
Discover plants from all over the world, stand in the middle of a tropical storm and meet the dinosaurs! Oslo’s Natural History Museum invites you to explore the diversity of nature in the Botanical Garden and exhibitions on zoology, geology and climate changes. The museum owns Norway's largest collection of natural objects, many of which are made available to the public.
Exhibitions
In the exhibitions, experiences await the whole family. Stuffed animals are displayed in natural settings, such as a seabird cliff or a beaver pond. Catch glimpses of Arctic wildlife, penguins in Antarctica, chimpanzees and okapis in African rainforests, and much more.
See Norway’s only complete dinosaur skeletons, along with several fossils of both dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The museum also has dedicated exhibitions on minerals and rocks, where you can admire some of the world’s most beautiful crystals. Step into a recreated crystal cave and be fascinated by crystals that completely change appearance when the lights are switched on and off.
At the Climate House, you can explore a unique and interactive exhibition about climate and climate change – and be inspired to take action!
The museum holds Norway’s largest collection of natural science objects, many of which are on display in the exhibitions.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1814. Here you can discover more than 4,500 plant species used in research, teaching and public education. As a green oasis in the city, the Botanical Garden is also an important recreational area for the people of Oslo and visitors alike. Experience plants from all over the world and themed areas such as the Rock Garden, the Scented Garden, and the sensory garden “Oldemors hage” (Grandmother’s Garden).
