Located by the beautiful park at Dømmesmoen.

In beautiful natural surroundings in Dømmesmoen Park in Grimstad, you will find the Norwegian Museum of Horticulture – the only museum of its kind in Norway.

The museum features a café serving its famous waffles and sveler (Norwegian pancakes), as well as three interesting exhibitions highlighting important aspects of the history of horticulture in Grimstad.

In the exhibition about the gardening school at Dømmesmoen, visitors get an insight into student life, the school’s teaching methods, and the impact the school had on the local horticulture industry. The exhibition “A Fairy Tale of Currants and Rhubarb” tells the story of the production of the well-known wines from Fuhr, while “In Jar, Glass, Tin and Bottle” offers a nostalgic look back at Grimstad’s large food preservation industry.

Children’s Summer at the Horticulture Museum

This summer we offer many experiences and activities for children at Dømmesmoen – and best of all, all activities are free for everyone!

This beautiful outdoor area offers plenty of experiences and activities for active families with children.

At the Horticulture Museum, children can enjoy a range of fun activities:

  • Park Bingo – search for animals and plants in the park and try to get five in a row

  • Treasure Hunt – find letters hidden in the exhibitions and solve the secret word

  • Activity booklet – filled with exciting tasks that help children explore the museum’s treasures

Other fun things to do:

  • The Tower – climb to the top and see if you can spot Denmark

  • Hide and seek – hide inside the large hollow oak tree where no one can find you

  • Coloring activities – bring beautiful flowers and insects to life with colors

And of course, we have a large selection of ice cream, as well as what many say are the world’s best waffles with homemade rhubarb jam. Delicious!

Visitor Centre for Raet National Park

The Visitor Centre for Raet National Park is also located at the Norwegian Museum of Horticulture. Here you can learn why the national park is named after a geological phenomenon rather than a geographical place.
