Join me for a walk that combines the best of Bergen with the hidden gems known only by locals. Explore the past & present with a native English-speaking guide.
This small-group walking tour combines history, culture, and everyday life as we walk through both the most famous attractions of Bergen and the off-the-beaten path parts of the city. We will discuss not just the fascinating history of Bergen, but also what it's like to live in Bergen today - including everyday life, housing, work, education, and anything you wish to ask. We'll explore the issues currently facing Bergen today, but also what makes Bergen a special place to live. This is a tour for those who don’t just want a summary of Bergen, but also a true insight into what it is like here.
Highlights include Bryggen, the Bergen Fortress, the narrow alleys, wooden houses, historic churches, local eateries, stunning views & fun stories. You’ll taste the product that made Bergen such an important commercial city and you’ll get many ideas for where you can go once the walk is over.
I Love Bergen is a group of guides who love everything about Bergen. Emma is originally from Australia but has lived in Bergen for 7 years and is the founder of I Love Bergen. We have a small team of enthusiastic locals ready to give you not just the history of Bergen, but also an insight into what it is like to live here. Some of our guides include Magda, originally from Poland but living in Bergen for almost 10 years, and Renato, who has lived in Bergen most of his life but has an Italian and English background. All our guides have years of experience and are authorised local guides with fluency in English.
With this walking tour, you'll get a feel not just for Bergen's history and culture, but also the 'real Bergen'. We want to show you the places we’ve discovered while living here, and the places with the most interesting stories.
If you want a private tour or a tour in another language (Polish, Italian, German, French, Dutch, etc), please email us directly.
See you in Bergen!
Meeting Place:
We meet outside the Rosenkrantz Tower, a building inside the Bergenhus Fortress complex. The closest street address is Bergenhus 3. To get there, you enter the fortress complex through a grey stone archway with a golden ‘C’ on it. On the other side of the archway, to your left, will be a large information board saying “Rosenkrantz Tower” with a picture of the tower on it. The guide will be standing there 10 minutes before the tour begins holding a sign that says “Bergen Past & Present”.
Duration:
2 hours. We do walk up small hills, some stairs, and there will be cobblestone. The total walk is about 3km, and it is done at a gentle pace.

The tour is done in English
