Aalesunds Museum

A museum in the heart of the art nouveau town

Aalesunds Museum is located in the centre of Ålesund and offers a fascinating insight into the town’s history from 1793 to today. Here, you can explore exhibitions that tell the story of the dramatic town fire in 1904, the rebuilding in magnificent art nouveau style, and life in a town built on fishing, shipping and industry. The museum itself is housed in a beautiful art nouveau building from 1906, and is an attraction in its own right for anyone wanting to understand what makes Ålesund so unique.

Through permanent and changing exhibitions, you can see everything from original city models and old photographs to maritime treasures and objects from fishing and local craftsmanship.
