Aalesunds Museum is located in the centre of Ålesund and offers a fascinating insight into the town’s history from 1793 to today. Here, you can explore exhibitions that tell the story of the dramatic town fire in 1904, the rebuilding in magnificent art nouveau style, and life in a town built on fishing, shipping and industry. The museum itself is housed in a beautiful art nouveau building from 1906, and is an attraction in its own right for anyone wanting to understand what makes Ålesund so unique.
Exhibitions for all agesThrough permanent and changing exhibitions, you can see everything from original city models and old photographs to maritime treasures and objects from fishing and local craftsmanship. You’ll get a glimpse of how people in Ålesund have lived through the ages – an engaging experience for both children and adults.
Practical informationAalesunds Museum is within walking distance of Brosundet and the town centre. There’s a museum shop with books and gifts, as well as a small outdoor display. The museum is open all year round, with separate opening hours for the winter season and summer months.
