Join us for an adventurous expedition to Nordenskiold Lodge. Every Friday in July, August and September we go by open boat northwards to the lodge situated by Nordenskiold glacier. In 3 days you will walk on the blue ice glacier, enjoy the boat safari and a visit to the Russian settlement Pyramiden. PROGRAM: Friday: Day before: Meet the guide in the reception at Basecamp Hotel at 4 pm to go through program and equipment. The day starts at 8 am, when your guide meet you at your hotel. We will go through the next day’s plan and route. We dress in survival suits before heading to the harbour and our open boat. We will travel all the way to the Billefjorden and Adolfbukta. There is plenty of wildlife around the fjords at this time of the year, so we have good chances to see some arctic birds, walruses, belugas or even the polar bear. Once at Nordenskiöld Lodge we will enjoy an outdoor lunch and get familiar with the cabin and the surroundings. After lunch it is time to head out to the arctic nature and explore the beauty around us. Before the evening we will return to the cabin, prepare a delicious dinner and warm up a sauna. Saturday: Today is the big glacier day. This is an adventure for both big and small! After breakfast, we will go through the equipment and safety on the glacier. Then we will head to the big Nordenskiöld glacier that lies just a short walk away. We use the whole day on the shiny glacier, climb up and down the icy surface, learn to use our equipment and enjoy lunch with the beautiful view. During the day, we will discover the exciting world of the blue ice. Warm sauna and cold drinks will top off the day. Sunday: After breakfast we have a chance for our last hike. We can have one last photo walk to the glacier front or hike to the moraine to take the last pictures of the wildlife and the shiny glacier. We will enjoy lunch at the cabin before returning to the civilization. We make a stop in Pyramiden on the way back to Longyearbyen and get to see the Russian settlement up close. The settlement was closes down in 1998, but have opened again for visitors. It is a fascinating place to visit. We return to Longyearbyen by boat and arrive during the afternoon or early evening.
