A bike ride around Lake Mjøsa offers beautiful cultural landscapes, tempting beaches and nice towns and villages.
You start in Lillehammer, host of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, with time to explore the pleasant pedestrian street and all the city's attractions. The first cycling leg goes to Brumunddal with accommodation in Wood Hotel, the world's tallest timber structure, Mjøstårnet.
From Brumunddal, you go on a day trip to Nes and Helgøya. The route goes through lush cultural landscapes with abundant cornfields and orchards. Nes and Helgøya are known for their many beautiful farms and wooden houses.
You continue further along the shoreline to Hamar. From Hamar you get a ride with Skibladner , the only paddle steamer operating in Norway, across Lake Mjøsa to Kapp. Skibladner is the world’s oldest paddle steamer still in regular operation, having sailed for over 165 years. You spend one night in Gjøvik before cycling back to Lillehammer.
The trip follows parts of the waymarked cycle route 'Mjøstråkk' which goes around the entire Lake. Mostly you cycle through open landscapes with a great view of the lake and the surroundings. There are many opportunities to extend your daily stages every day. How about a detour to Atlungstad Brenneri - Aquavit distillery?
