Overview
Details

This mansion is the main building of the owners of the paper factory of Alvøen, dating from 1797. Large collection of furniture, silver and porcelain.

Alvøen is one of Norway’s oldest industrial communities. Here the Fasmer family created a small and successful industrial community, with a school, savings bank, library and community hall for the workers. Alvøen Manor was also one of Bergen’s grandest private homes, which now is open to the public for groups on request. Here you will encounter the family history, industrial history, social history and art history, presented in a way that provides an exciting and picturesque glimpse of Norwegian social structures in the past.

Alvøen Manor was originally built as a countryside retreat in 1797. Eventually a large garden and park was established. The Chinese-inspired pavilion was given a central position. The garden we meet today dates back to the 1930s. At that time it was given straight paths, rose borders and hedges in a tight architectural frame.

Café available.
