Join a four-hour guided fjord cruise from Tromsø aboard a hybrid-electric catamaran. Explore Ramfjorden, visit a historic fishing facility at Rya and learn about the region’s nature, culture and history.

This tour is operated by Brim Explorer.

Explore Ramfjorden by hybrid-electric boat

See Tromsø and the surrounding coastline from the water as you sail past colourful houses, small farms and quiet coastal roads. As the vessel approaches Ramfjorden, it slows down and switches to its electric engine, allowing you to glide quietly into the fjord.

Discover life beneath the surface

At Holmen, a small island with a history as a fishing station and military lookout, the crew may deploy an underwater drone. Live footage is shown on screens on board, offering a closer look at Arctic marine life such as starfish, kelp forests, crabs and cod.

The use of the underwater drone depends on the weather and currents and may be cancelled for safety reasons.

Olavsvern submarine base

The cruise continues past Olavsvern, a former Cold War submarine base carved into the mountain. Your guide will share the story of this once-classified military facility, which was built to accommodate NATO submarines and withstand nuclear threats.

Visit a historic fishing facility at Rya

Weather and sea conditions permitting, you will go ashore at Rya for a short visit to a historic fishing facility. Explore two small museums, see a traditional fish-drying rack and learn how cod fishing has shaped the culture, livelihoods and everyday life of Northern Norway.

The exhibitions include old fishing tools, dried cod, historical photographs and clothing once worn by local fishermen. You will also be invited to taste a local product connected to the region’s fishing traditions, such as dried fish, roe or another seasonal sample.

The return journey to Tromsø

On the way back, the vessel passes Tromsøya and Håkøya. Your guides will point out important landmarks and share stories from the Second World War, including the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz.
