Going ashore here is like joining a Norwegian advertisement for Milk Chocolate. Walk along light gravel roads and green meadows crowded with yellow dandelion flowers. You will pass old white-painted Nordland houses (Nordlandshus), red barns, cows and friendly locals who greet everyone they meet along the way. At the same time, you have a constant view of sparkling sea and the iconic mountain peak Sandhornet which rises 993m straight up from the sea.
Arnøyene is a vibrant community in the middle of the ocean, with approx. 250 inhabitants. Most of the population lives on Sørarnøy (the southern island). Here you will also find the convenience store, a school, a church house, village house, fish fabric and quay for both ferry and express boat.
If you follow the main road through Sørarnøy for approx. 30 min (by foot), you get to a bridge which takes you on to Nordarnøy (the northern island). In the 15th century, Nordarnøy had the status of a trading post, and the place was of great importance to those who traveled along the coast at that time. Here you could trade the catch you did not need yourself with necessities such as beer and boose or rent accommodation if needed. The trading post was a natural stop for those travelling to and from Bergen for trading and was also frequently visited by fishermen on their way to Lofoten fishing.
At the far end of Nordarnøy you will find Arnøy Brygge, which still makes a living from fishing, and accommodation rental. The tourism complex is constantly evolving and offers accommodation in modern sea houses with fantastic views, a restaurant with seafood buffet and a bar.
Activities
At Arnøy Brygge you can rent a boat and go on a sea excursion to large and small islands along the coast. Fishing, canoeing, diving, water skiing, hiking, or cycling are also possible activities here.
Stay and eat
Arnøy Brygge offers accommodation in fisherman's cabins, fisherman's suites and apartments with a good standard and different sizes. You will find a good alternative whether you travel alone, with a partner, in a large family, on a friend trip or with colleagues.
In the restaurant you can be served high quality seafood. Order a 5-course dinner or seafood buffet consisting of completely fresh non-raised ingredients. If you have been on a fishing trip with a fishing guide, you can even have your own fish prepared! If you are lucky, live music will also be played with the food.
Getting to Arnøyene
Both ferry and express boats take you to Sørarnøy. From there you can travel by car, on foot or by bicycle.
If you come by car, follow rv17 to the ferry berth either on Sund (past Inndyr) or Horsdal (On Sandhornøy).
There is also a daily express boat from Bodø city center. Here you cannot bring a car, but book a ticket for yourself (and your bike). Booking in advance is recommended.
