Since the Bærum Kulturhus opened its doors in 2003, the institution has carved a niche of its own, proving to be a steadfast purveyor of high quality culture events for the local Bærum audience as well as arts connoisseurs from the greater Oslo region.
The striking building, designed by renowned architect firm Snøhetta (of Oslo Opera House fame), houses annually more than 550 concerts, dance performances and other events resulting in ticket sales in excess of 70 000.
One rather unique trait of Bærum Kulturhus is the fact that one has managed the delicate balancing act of combining international arts of the highest level with local culture. The Bærum Kulturhus loyal (and steadily growing) audience gets to experience international top-tier performers on the same stages as local theatre, music and dance companies, resulting in a quite unique blend of professional and amateur arts.
Contemporary dance is a core artistic field in which the Bærum Kulturhus has managed to establish itself as a venue of national importance. Each year sees top international dance companies choosing Bærum Kulturhus as their preferred venue for Scandinavian premieres or exclusive performances.
Within its organisation, Bærum Kulturhus also houses a Centre for Dance whose core activities centres on outreach, tour production and competence development programs. Another vital addition to the organisation’s structure is Tanken with its sprawling creative industry hub made up of music industry execs, media companies, producers, artists and bands.
Add to this a solid focus on classical music, jazz, world-music, top-tier pop/rock/urban acts, visual arts, quality humour shows, events for minors as well as theatre, and the end result is a house of culture that caters to a wide range of arts enthusiasts.
