Bastøya Island is centrally located in the seaward approach to the inner parts of the Oslofjord, 4.5 km south-east of Horten.
The island is best known locally as the site of various institutions. First as a home for boys, then as a rehabilitation centre for alcoholics and now a national prison.
The island is not open to general traffic.
