The old authentic character has been retained, and received the Building Tradition Award from the Flora Local Authority in 1992. Batalden is a restored farm and fishing environment with 3 seahouses and 2 dwelling houses from the period 1820?1900. The authentic character has been retained and received the Building Tradition award from Flora Authority in 1992, the building Development preize in 1998 and Olavrosa award 2000.

It is a good place for walking and fishing. On the west side of Store Batalden rock carvings have been found dating from the Bronze age, i.e. about 1500 BC. Theories about the meaning of these carvings vary from fertility symbols, footprints of the Gods to deer tracks. The carvings may be related to similar carvings in Domba and the large number of grave mounds at Årebrot and in Botnane. This indicates great activity in the area at this time. Batalden also gives a contribution to the history of the vikings and their marauding. The viking Kolbein Torljotson came from Batalden and is mentiones in the sagas of Snorre.
