The former stock exchange building is today an exquisite hotel with a delicate blend of classic and modern styles.
In the heart of Bergen city centre
Bergen Børs Hotel lives up to its description as "luxurious" with a "location in the centre of Bergen", even though the management prefers not to use the word "luxury" – but rather elegance, dignity, and discretion. There's a reason for that. And it's in the walls.
Claiming that Bergen Børs Hotel is located in the middle of the city is no exaggeration. Depending on the room, guests looking to the northeast can see the Fish Market and Bryggen – the latter a historic UNESCO-listed wharf with roots dating back to the Middle
Ages when Hanseatic ships docked there. To the east, you can see Torgallmenningen, the main square, with the Maritime Monument. To the northwest stands the statue of the city's great writer, Ludvig Holberg, born in 1684 (the same year that Bergen's very first stock exchange opened).
An historic building
Bergen Børs Hotel, designed by architect F.W. Schiertz, opened in 1862 and was rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style from 1890 to 1893. The architectural firm Claesson Koivisto Rune was responsible for converting the former stock exchange building into a hotel that has preserved its unique history while adding a more modern style. According to the architects, "eccentricity" and "magic" were key concepts as a starting point for the process.
Bergen Børs Hotel's restaurants
The hotel also houses the restaurant Frescohallen, an impressive hall with murals on the walls and an international menu and local seafood, of course. In addition, you can eat Spanish tapas at Fresquito.
