Best Kept Secret: Fjords & Alps in the footsteps of the Coastal Sami

Follow in the footsteps of the Coastal Sami through stories and artefacts and be amazed by breathtaking views of mountains and fjords.

This tour is conducted by Best Arctic. This trip is ideal for those who want to discover the winter paradise around Tromsø while learning about Sami culture and traditions. The tour starts in Tromsø. After a 60-minute scenic drive enjoying beautiful mountains and valleys along the way, you will arrive in the Nakkevatnet area: this is where your soft adventure will start. We will go on a snowshoe walk (we show you how to use them, it’s very easy!) and hike up to one of the easier summits. Our hidden gem of a location is a spectacular region overlooking the snow-covered Lyngen Alps and a beautiful fjord called Ullsfjord. Weather permitting, you will have an amazing view of the surrounding mountains. We will make several stops for photos and as we visit different Sami sites. Your local guide will tell you interesting facts about the Arctic environment, the Sami culture and history with a focus on Coastal Sami in Norway. Who are the Sami people? Where do the Sami people live? These are some questions that will be answered during the tour. Once we get to the Sami camp, we will serve you well deserved hot drinks and snacks.
