Bikeride - Around the Femsjøen
Halden - A bicycle-friendly city
Cycling 35 km
about 3.5 hours
Grading: Medium
Season: March-September
Start and stop: Halden Guest Harbor.
A bike ride in beautiful nature and a stop at Brekke locks.
More information and downloadable GPS map at ut.no
The trip starts at the guest harbor and goes along the Tista-river, through Fosseløkka along the old industrial area that housed both Cathrineholm and Bomullsspinneriet. In Tistedal you cycle towards Asak church and along the west side of Femsjøen further up Torpedalen. At Håkenbykrysset, turn off towards Årbu and there it turns into a gravel road. At Rød you take off towards Nestangen and cycle on Seljevikveien. Instead of taking off at the barrier down towards Nestangen, continue on the road until it ends and turns into a path. Here is the sign for Brekke locks. About 2.4 km through the forest. There is a nice path, but in some places it is probably best to roll the bike.
Be aware that you have to carry the bike up a slightly steep staircase at the bottom lock. From Brekke, the road continues to Kruseter. Great swimming area. Follow Rv 204 from Kruseter to Tistedal and cycle down to the town through Fosseløkka. Alternative route on return is Ertemarka. When you come out on the main road, after Brekke locks, one of the first turns left. Here you cycle up to Ormtjernhytta where the road further towards Ertemarka is well signposted. At the car park, an asphalt road cycles down to Tistedal. Good trip!
