Åkersvika is a delta area along the eastern shore of Mjøsa, the largest inland lake in Norway. It is one of the most important staging sites for ducks, shorebirds and other wetland species in the southern interior of Norway. The largest town in the region, Hamar, and its industrial areas are situated very close to Åkersvika. Furthermore, the main highway between Oslo and Trondheim, E6, actually crosses the delta and is planned to be expanded. However, the site’s convenient location makes it a popular and frequently visited site, both by local and travelling birdwatchers.
