Eastern Norway Viken ÅS

Birdwatching Østensjøvannet in Ås (South end)

  •  /  km From You

Nutrient-rich lake lined with reeds in an area with farmland interspersed with patches of mixed woodland, providing suitable habitat for a variety of birds. Great Crested Grebe, Coot, Moorhen, Honey-buzzard, Buzzard, Stock Dove, Thrush Nightingale, Reed and Marsh Warblers are all amongst the regular breeders in the area. Osprey, Marsh Harrier and Hobby visit the lakes from time to time. You may also find scarce ducks, such as Garganey and Porchard. A nocturnal expedition to the area in late spring or early summer provides a fair chance of finding Quail, Corn Crake or Grasshopper Warbler or even rarer species, such as River Warbler or Blyth’s Reed Warbler.
