Fjord Norway Vestland ØYGARDEN

Birdwatching Øygarden (Herdlevær)

  •  /  km From You

West of Bergen is a neat row of islands called Øygarden, the guard of islands, protecting the inner coast from the rough North Sea and providing a guideline for land- and seabirds migrating up and down the Norwegian west coast. Herdlevær is an area of grazing pastures and gardens close to the sea, which makes it an exciting spot to look for migrants in spring and autumn. Skogsøy island nearby protrudes a bit further west than the other islands and is often used as a basis for seawatching.
