The two islands Giske and Vigra are situated along the outer coast beyond Ålesund town. They are among the best sites for shorebirds and other wetland species in the country. In autumn they represent the “last stop” before the shorebirds continue south along the more barren coasts between here and Jæren. The tiny Lake Svansvatnet is completely overgrown, but is an obligatory stop when listening for nocturnal songbirds in late spring and early summer.
