Birdwatching Herøy and Dønna (Salsvatnet west)

  •  /  km From You

Two island communities along the outer coast near Sandnessjøen, just south of the Arctic Circle. The two main islands and several smaller ones are interconnected with roads, but you need a ferry to get there from the mainland. Herøy and Dønna are strategically positioned along the migration routes both over land and at sea, and migrants in need of a rest have many different habitats to choose from. To of the best birdwatching sites are the lakes Salsvatnet and Altervatnet, both of which can attract a number of ducks and other waterbirds.
