Børgin is a 10 km deep side-section of the Trondheimsfjord, connected with the main fjord by just a narrow strait, called Straumen. Strong currents build up two times a day, when the tide forces the water back and forth through Straumen, preventing the freezing of the water. Hence, this is an important site for gulls, ducks and divers, also in mid-winter.
