Jæren is the El Dorado for waterbirds in Norway. It is safe to say that this is the single most important and most varied area for birds in the country at all times of year. The area is vast, about 700 km2, and contains a number of legendary sites such as Revtangen, Grudavatnet, Orrevatnet and Nærlandsstranden. But actually, any little field, ditch or pool of water at Jæren can be regarded as a birdwatching site of national significance, and both birds and birdwatchers seem to move freely from one site to the next.
