Birdwatching Jeløya (Alby)

  •  /  km From You
Overview

Jeløya is an island in the Oslo fjord, just outside the town of Moss. Originally a peninsula, it is now separated from the mainland by an artificial channel. Jeløya has a mixture of cultivated land and mixed forest with batches of lush, mature deciduous trees. Here you can find breeding species such as Stock Dove, Green Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Wood Warbler, Marsh Tit and Hawfinch. In recent years, Three-toed Woodpecker has been seen regularly as well. Jeløya offers pretty good habitat for ducks and shorebirds, particularly near its southern tip. It is a very interesting area to explore on nocturnal songbird trips. You might see migrating passerines, raptors and seabirds here in season.
