Jomfruland is a 7 km long and narrow island running parallel with the Telemark coastline. The northern tip of Jomfruland, together with Mølen, is the best migration site along the Skagerrak coast, good for landbirds and seabirds alike. The much smaller island Stråholmen is positioned north of Jomfruland like the dot over the i. Stråholmen is noted for being the only reliable breeding site in Norway for Barred Warbler, although with only a very few remaining pairs. Stråholmen has a higher proportion of scrub, and fewer trees than Jomfruland, and it has nice shorebird-friendly areas of rocky beach and tidal pools, well worth visiting.
