Birdwatching Lake Hellesjøvannet (Tower hide parking)

  •  /  km From You
Overview

A small nutrient-rich lake situated in an agricultural region with patches of mixed woodland. Hellesjøvannet is almost circular in shape and 900 metres in diameter at the most. It is lined with reeds along the banks. A birdwatching tower hide is erected in the southwest corner. At Hellesjøvannet, Great Crested Grebe, Coot and Reed Warbler breed. A few pairs of Sedge and Marsh Warblers breed as well, probably also Water Rail and perhaps, at least some years, Spotted Crake and Thrush Nightingale. Both Pochard and Slavonian Grebe used to breed here as well, but these species are now just fairly regular visitors from July to November. Mute Swan used to breed, but has in recent times been exchanged with one or two pairs of Whooper Swan.
