Eastern Norway Oslo

Birdwatching Maridalen (Hammeren)

  •  /  km From You

Maridalen valley is a good point of entry into the vast forests surrounding Oslo, collectively known as Oslomarka. It is a popular recreational area for the citizens of Oslo and neighbouring suburban areas. Although the traffic of hikers, cyclists and skiers on the main routes may be heavy, particularly on weekends with nice weather, you may well find tranquil places surprisingly close to densely inhabited areas. In such places you can find many of the common woodland species of the region, and, with a little bit of patience and luck, also species one normally associates with deep taiga forest, such as Capercaillie, Tengmalm’s Owl and Three-toed Woodpecker.
