The outermost group of islands in the Lofoten archipelago is Røst, 100 km from Bodø and more than 20 km from the closest major island, Værøy. Røst consists of about 1000 rather low islands and skerries besides five prominent cliff islands, lying in a row like pearls on a string. The vegetation on the islands is sparse, mainly consisting of heather and grass.
