Experience the atmosphere of beautiful Aulestad! The Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson lived here with his family from 1875. The home is one of the best preserved artist homes in Norway.

Experience the atmosphere of beautiful Aulestad! The Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832–1910) lived here with his family from 1875.

The museum is one of the best preserved artist homes in Norway, located beautifully on the countryside in Gausdal outside of Lillehammer.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson wrote the national anthem. He was an enthusiastic and committed soul, engaged in the matters of his time.

One of Bjørnson’s most known novels is «Synnøve Solbakken» and «A Happy Boy». In 1903 he was awarded the Nobel literature prize for his authorship.

Guided tours and garden

Guided tours take place in the home several times a day every day during the summer season. The tour offers meetings with Bjørnson as a poet, politician, theater person and family father.

Take a walk through the garden and enjoy the flowers, the fruit trees and the gravel walks.
