Fantastic highland biking along Blåsjømagasinet - Norway's fourth largest artificial hydropower reservoir. The ride can easily be combined with a hike and an overnight visit to Storsteinen or Hovatn cabins operated by the Stavanger Trekking Association STF.
The paved road along the great Blåsjømagasinet lake, takes you more than 20km into the highlands to the heart of the SVR Ryfylkeheiane nature reserve. From the beginning of july, most snow will be gone with the exception of some minor patches. Wait for a nice day without wind and get on your bike! The ride is suitable for the entire family, but there are some ups and downs - afterall, you're in Norway!
The road ends at the Storevassdammen, one of Norway's largest manmade structures. From here, it is only an hour to walk to Storsteinen cabin where you can have lunch or spend the night. The hut is operated by the Stavanger Trekking Association and there is a well-marked trail from the dam to the hut. Please note that you are not allowed off the path in this zone - restraint imposed to protect an important trekking area for wild reindeer.
If you are fit, you could bike all the way from Gullingen and up. But then a steep ascent and dark tunnel await you at the end of the Oddatjønnjuvet gorge.
