Brewery Visit & beer tasting During the visit, you will hear about how Svalbard Brewery became a reality and how former coal miner and pilot Robert Johansen got the idea about establishing his own brewery on Svalbard. You will get to see the brewery, learn about the brewing process and taste five different beers brewed on water containing 2000 years old glacial water from Bogerbreen.
Svalbard Brewery was established in 2011 and we served our first beer in August 2015 here in Longyearbyen. After nearly six years of efforts to change the law from 1928, which prohibited production of alcohol on Svalbard, ended with success. Robert Johansen's longevity in Svalbard and his love for the island has been the impetus for the establishment of the brewery at 78 degrees north. Do you want a different experience?
