Brewery Visit & beer tasting - how the impossible became possible During the visit, you will hear about how Svalbard Brewery became a reality, how former coal miner and pilot Robert Johansen got the idea about establishing his own brewery on Svalbard, and what it would require of patience to become reality. You will tour the brewery, learn about the brewing process, and take part in tasting of five different beers, brewed on 2000 years old arctic glacial water from Bogerbreen.
Svalbard Brewery, established in 2011, brewed its first beer in August 2015. Six years of efforts to change the law from 1928, which prohibited production of alcohol on Svalbard, ended with success. Robert Johansen's longevity in Svalbard and his love for the island has been the impetus for the establishment of the brewery at 78 degrees north. Do you want a different experience? Then we recommend a visit to Svalbard Brewery. Taste locally produced beer containing 2000 years old glacial water from Bogerbreen on Svalbard.
