Camp Pæska lies on the historic Pæska slate mountain, only 20 minutes from Alta center. Here you get to experience an authentic arctic environment, far away from light pollution – an ideal place to experience the northern lights with magnificent view over the surrounding landscape. With several outdoor viewpoints you have plenty of space to enjoy the night sky, take pictures and experience the northern lights.

The northern lights is one of nature’s greatest wonders, but the northern lights follows no schedule. At Camp Pæska the waiting time becomes part of the experience.

Relax in our heated slate cabins, panorama cabin or slate workshop while you enjoy hot drinks and something sweet to bite, at the same time as you keep an eye on the night sky. Step into our traditional Sami lavvu and feel the warmth from a crackling fire.

Participate in an exciting and educational presentation about the myths and stories of the northern lights, as well as the fascinating science behind the phenomenon. Our northern lights story is over 100 years old, and since Birkeland and his team came to Alta to research the northern lights, Alta is proud to call itself the Northern lights city

Discover also another important part of Alta’s history by visiting our slate museum. Here you get to learn about the area’s unique slate heritage and how generations of local families have shaped both the mountain and the local community. In the workshop you can also see a short film that follows Alta-slate’s journey – from mountain to finished craft.

Whether the northern lights dances over the sky or makes you wait, Camp Pæska offers a genuine arctic evening filled with history, culture, hospitality and unique surroundings.

You also have access to heated toilet facilities, so that the experience becomes comfortable throughout the evening.

With several indoor facilities, heated toilets and viewing areas Camp Pæska suits just as well for small as large groups.
